Male Bathroom Décor Tips

A masculine bathroom can still exude warmth and luxury.

Gentlemen, when decorating your living space, do not overlook the bathroom.

I know, I know – you’re thinking it’s just where you go to s***, shower, and shave. No big deal, right?

Wrong.

Listen – a properly designed bathroom is the modern man’s oasis.

This small, innocuous room is your retreat from the world for personal rejuvenation and transformation.

It’s where you magically evolve from “grouchy guy who just woke up” to “all-powerful being that’s going to dominate his day.”

A man’s bathroom is kind of like Superman’s telephone booth, when you really think about it.

So don’t downplay the importance of this vital little space in your castle.

Instead, design your masculine bathroom with purpose and style, so that you get the most out of it.

Despite its importance, the modern male’s bathroom design is often limited. For some reason, masculine bathroom décor has become synonymous with a bathroom that is dark, minimalist, and not very inviting.

In other words, men’s bathrooms are usually pretty boring.

Let’s put an end to these limiting beliefs.

Here are some basic design tips to creating the ultimate bathroom for a modern man:

Design with a purpose

Men, first and foremost, always remember that this is your bathroom.

So, before you go about designing your manly bathroom, take a short breather and ask yourself what’s important to you?

What would make bathing and shaving easier, faster, and less stressful for you?

Do you have enough room to store your shaving and grooming equipment? Are these objects easily accessible, and are they kept appropriately clean and dry in their resting places? Do you need to reconsider storage and design to make your personal grooming experience more pleasant and efficient?

Do you have enough electrical outlets? Do you have enough lighting? Is the lighting harsh and unflattering, or does it help de-stress you?

Have you considered fancy shower heads, towel warmers, heated flooring, novelty soap dispensers, and fogless mirrors? All these shiny gadgets and modern conveniences are what make your bathroom YOUR bathroom.

In addition to adding things you need to your bathroom décor, also consider eliminating things you don’t need.

Minimalism is a great concept, but it doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of everything. It means that you get rid of what you don’t need in order to make space for only what you do need (or want).

For instance, if you’re not into baths, get rid of the tub. Use that valuable space for a bigger, more luxurious standing shower, if that’s what you’d prefer.

Add colour

Guys, your bathroom does not need to be dark and depressing.

And it does not need to be all one colour (monochromatic), either.

Colour is about expressing yourself, so think about which colour suits your personality and makes you feel awesome every time you see it.

The colours you surround yourself with should make you feel good. Maybe you want your bathroom to feel invigorating, or maybe you’d prefer a colour palette that relaxes you. This is completely up to you – your preferences are going to differ from the next guy’s. And that’s okay!

If greys and whites are the right bathroom colour scheme for you, great. If orange and blue strikes you, then go with that! If you prefer darker colours (they can be cozy when done right), that’s okay too.

If you don’t want to wild out with colour, remember you can always go with a subtle colour palette and then just punch it up with bold accents.

Also, if you’d rather play it safe, you can restrict your bolder colour choices for the décor in your bathroom that can easily be replaced (such as linens and wall hangings), as opposed to more permanent fixtures, such as tiles and flooring.

Think beyond chrome and tile

Now that you’re thinking outside the box when it comes to colours for masculine bathroom décor, start thinking about using various materials in your bathroom design as well.

There is a whole world of bathroom décor that goes well beyond chrome and tile.

You can incorporate wood surfaces for more warmth and a rustic feel. Think saunas, log cabins, and your summer cottage retreat.

If you’d prefer something more sleek and polished, you can find glass, stone and metal finishes.

And by all means, you can combine different materials and still have everything look pulled together. Wood looks absolutely stunning when it’s paired with glass or silver.

As a rule of thumb, to create consistency and balance in your bathroom, you should try to repeat each shade or material (wood, metal, etc.) at least 2 or 3 times so that it looks intentional.
