I wanted to share with you something really quick. I’ve just left the gym and on my way out, I received a text from a client who I was furniture shopping with on the weekend.

And, it just really made me smile because it reminded me that when we walked into a store on the weekend, I was just immediately drawn to this fabric and this pillow that I saw.

It had tangerine oranges in it, some cowhide design, and it almost kind of took my breath away.

And, I said to her these are exactly the things you want to feel when you are starting to put your design schemes together.

If you were drawn to a fabric, or a design, or a color, pick it up and make sure that’s going to be your jumping off point.

You want to have that emotional connection with any items you’re bringing into your home.

So, I was so drawn to this pillow, and I thought, “How could I bring that into my design scheme?”

So, as you can see, my artwork here has some metallics in it, some blues in my dining area. And so, I just wanted to show you that quickly.

If I’m wanting to incorporate some oranges into my design scheme, I could absolutely do that because blues are a direct complimentary color to the orange shades.

If you wanted to do a split complimentary, you can get more into different shades of blues and starting to get into some of the more purples.

(But, you have to be careful, it is a fine line which shade of oranges and blues that you are connecting together.)

So, as you can see, no wonder I’m drawn to that color, because it actually goes with my design scheme.

And funny enough, the more I think about it, I actually really like orange.

So, people do say you have to look good in your home, and so that’s why surround yourself in colors that you love and that make you feel happy and comfortable.

I just wanted to let you know, don’t fall into any presets of what society thinks that you should do or design how certain rules should be. Rules can be broken and lot of times you can make your own.
