Today, I want to talk to all you modern day gentleman out there, once again, and talk to you about the importance of knowing what you want to do with your space before you just start jumping in and trying to find a design scheme.

So, although I have a lot of ideas in my mind about what could work and what couldn’t work, what it really comes down to is you.

I have to listen to you, my client, intently and make sure that I am getting to know you exactly enough to bring together a style that I think is going to be uniquely you.

So how do I do that?

Well, I’ve compiled an extensive questionnaire and it’ll ask questions like, how do you use the space?

It could be a bedroom. It could be a living room or it could be a dining room.

And, a lot of times they are used for multipurpose items.

So, a lot of times people will do their work at their dining table. A lot of people might have their kids do homework there. It’s multifunctional and so I need to know all of those things before designing a space.

So, the questionnaire includes how that space is used, how often is it used, how many people might be using that space at a time. Is it for entertaining? Is it for movie watching? Even in a bedroom, some people do their work and have their desk in there, so we need to know everything.

We need to know what types of patterns and colors you are drawn to, and places that you like to shop. That gives me a good idea as to what your style might be and to what your budget range might be, as well.

So, all of those things put together, along with having numerous meetings with my clients and getting to know them super well, I think that’s definitely a recipe for good design, as well as having a good relationship with your designer/decorator and getting to know them at a different level so that, again, you’re creating a space will be uniquely you.
